Welcome to BASSING-JERSEY

Welcome to my blog. This is not a site for anyone to obtain fishing marks from reading my site. It is for bass anglers who are keen on learning different methods.

It is also aimed at anglers who are not interested in slaughtering fish but return the majority of their fish to fight another day.

I intend to use it as a diary of my fishing trips and some of the marks mentioned in the blog will only mean something to a few readers.

Bass are in

It has been a long time coming but I was out with Derek yesterday afternoon, lovely conditions slight breeze and warm sunshine. We drifted over BO and took 6fish on the first drift. Although none of the fish were large it enabled us to tag a number of fish.

The total for the afternoon was 37 fish, not bad going

Perfect wife

Beverley insisted on going fishing this morning so I was only to happy to oblige . Fishing the cut through between Grd and GI I picked up a bass of around two pounds using a savage slug. This was followed by a 4lb wrasse.

A further drift resulted in a 4lb bass plus a further wrasse. We continued to move around as the tide ebbed and picked up another bass of around 2lb near comorant rock. Bev took a number of pollack and wrasse. I had a nice pollack as well

Back home now and Bev has passed me a beer before she cooks the bbq

Bass Tagging has started

Tag inserted and ready to be returned
Tag being inserted into the back of a fish
In conjunction with Jersey Fisheries a few local anglers have been asked to tag bass in order that they can monitor the movements. The fishing has been poor over the last few weeks with the waters remaining very clear and the lack of bass has been very frustrating.

We last tagged about 10 years ago and some of the returned tags had turned up on fish caught in the bay of biscay.

Surface Lures start to work

Hard going with Derek today, however the day started well with the sight of Dolphins feeding off Gorey today

The fishing was slow with all our usual marks blanking. Derek eventually breaking the blank on the off shore reefs out past shearers run.The point blanked and we moved back inshore to our  favorite shallow water spot.We had to use surface lures due to the shallowness of the water. We were quickly into fish. The largest one was just over 4.5lbs, We had six at this spot

Slow slow start

This year has been the worse start for us in many years. Very few bass around and most of them are small. Out with Derek today proved to be very difficult. Derek took a small bass at the offshore reefs whilst I caught an even smaller bass at the point. We had a few mackerel at the Demie de pas on Sunday

Out with Steve

Out  with Steve Olsen today with a northerley 3-4 wind blowing restricted or fishing. The 37ft tide dropped quickly and we concentrated our fishing around Trevors Point. This resulted in a bass for Steve of 49cms and a good number of pollack . I hooked into a nice bass at low tide but failed to land the fish

More Pollack than you can count

Due to the persistent N/E winds and the cold damp weather, it was a quick change of plans today. Transferring from Derek's boat to mine at the last minute. We set our from La Collette on a 34ft ebbing tide, Both of us were using Savagegear slug sandeels on 7g jigheads.

A few pollack and wrasse came our way until we reached gannet gulley and drifted in the choppy conditions. The first bass fell to me, but the fish was really small. We moved onto Trevors point and drifted the reefs around there. Plooack after pollack came to the boat with the biggest being just over 4lbs. Derek hooked a bass of 43 cms.

Derek also had a nice wrasse of just over 4lbs. The rain set in and we headed back to the harbour
