Welcome to BASSING-JERSEY

Welcome to my blog. This is not a site for anyone to obtain fishing marks from reading my site. It is for bass anglers who are keen on learning different methods.

It is also aimed at anglers who are not interested in slaughtering fish but return the majority of their fish to fight another day.

I intend to use it as a diary of my fishing trips and some of the marks mentioned in the blog will only mean something to a few readers.

Night Needlefishing

Having been impressed by the excellent results that Keith White of Jersey Bass Guides has been enjoying fishing needle fish lures at night, I was invited to attend and learn how to fish these seemingly simple lures.

We met just as the darkness was setting in, Keith White, his brother Kevin and Stephen Olsen and Dave.I was a bit apprehensive as I was trying something totally different. Not night fishing but using needle sticks. The wade started as the tide began to  drop and clearly everyone was up for a goodnight.

I took some ribbing for the bright pink rucksack that I had found in the shed. We were soon on the marks where sand eels were splashing in the water. It was not long before Kevin had the first fish on followed by further shouts from the others that they were getting bites. I had to remember the instructions given to me about the lures and found it difficult to keep the rod in the required position.

I was using a shorter rod than the others and could not cast as far as the others. This was a minus as the fish were some way out due to the calm conditions.

Eventually the first fish was hooked by myself and released followed a short time later by a small fish. It may be small but it proved to me what the others had been telling me. That needles do work.

40 fish came ashore last night in the space of less than an hour. The tide had turned and we had to return back to the shore.A good night and shows what can be achieved. I am looking forward to my next trip, thanks a lot guys for the invite.

  1. What? No boat?? ;)

Looks like you had a great time though Alan and I'm well pleased that you finally got to get out and fish using those "sticks with hooks". Well done mate and to all who fished.

  2. No boat, is a shock to many, however I cut my teeth on wading these grounds back in the 80's. As you say they are just sticks with hooks

  3. Nice account of the trip Alan. There is a magic to the needlefish that can't be explained. You did well on what was not an easy night.
