Welcome to BASSING-JERSEY

Welcome to my blog. This is not a site for anyone to obtain fishing marks from reading my site. It is for bass anglers who are keen on learning different methods.

It is also aimed at anglers who are not interested in slaughtering fish but return the majority of their fish to fight another day.

I intend to use it as a diary of my fishing trips and some of the marks mentioned in the blog will only mean something to a few readers.

Top Water Fun

Out with Derek during the afternoon, Nice and calm but a small tide fishing bo . we had a total of seven fish caught on a mixture of surface lures and shads.

I was using a slugo fished across the surface which attracted a number of fish. I have just received some hogys which I intend to use. This one was on a castaic lure

The drizzle set in and we returned back home

Jersey Bass Guides

Having read Keith White's blog at Jersey Bass Guides http://www.jerseybassguides.com/bassfish/blog1.php
It is impressive fishing during the hours of darkness.

Our fishing yesterday was pretty meagre  during the daylight hours yesterday with only 5 small fish coming to the boat. It is clear that the fish are not feeding much during the day due to the clarity of the water. It looks like I am going to have to consider a few night trips and see if I can get into the fish.

Well done Keith and his band of fisherman, credit where credit is due

Wife teaches me a lesson

Having had a poor day out with Derek yesterday I thought we could go out on the low at lunchtime today. Bev was using a 7gm sakura  eel. We had taken a couple of pollack before moving into lhg towards bev rock. The tide was begining to move and all of a sudden Bev said she thought she had a fish on.

I could see it was a bass and it began to take line. Eventually the fish came to the net when it spat the lure out.
A nice bass of 5lbs, her best ever. Well done Bev. The fish was tagged and returned

Hydro Jig works

Last year whilst in Charleston I picked up two small lures called Hydro Jigs. Yesterday evening I went out on the low tide to try my luck.

I could see that Keith White and Steve Olsen were already fishing but I started at Micks point using the jig and was immediately into a Bass around the two pounds mark
I took another tow fish of similar size in quick succession before the fish moved off. I moved back into GI side of things and hooked a fish just under 4lbs. As the tide dropped the fishing dropped off. I managed another 2 fish and 6 pollack before the evening came to an end
I took about 6 pollack during the evening, I managed to lose the lure during the evening so that leaves just one left.So if anyone can get me some of the Carolinalures Hydro Jig lures please let me know as the bass loved them last night/

Funny few days

The fishing has been difficult over the last few days. The weather has been appalling with more bad weather on the way for the weekend.

We have managed to get out but the fish have been small , Fish have come from finger rock, the point ,and shearers run. They have taken soft plastics and do not seem to be interested on the surface lures. Yesterday was a blank bass wise but the heavy rain did not help.

Today we managed to get out and pick 7 small fish

Beaten by Callum

Out with Callum last Saturday and I was put to shame on the bass front.First stop was the cut through gda and GI where Callum immediately hooked into a fish around the 4lb mark using  spindleworm. I had to be content with a pollack.

We moved onto Micks corner where he picked up another fish on an xlayer before we moved up LHG where If I can remember he took another 3 fish and again I had pollack.

Callum picked up a smaller fish near trevors point and fish became scarce towards low tide. I decided to move towards a small reef near EC which often holds large fish. Callum decided to use his lrf rod and cast out immediately hooking into a fish which put up a spirited fight on the light rod. I eventually netted the fish and it weighed in around the 6lb mark

A foggy Day

out with Derek in thick fog, an early start at 0620 resulted in fish being taken at the bo immediately after we stopped. Most of the 11 fish we had today were taken here.Yes Derek took morwe than me including a fish just over the 5lb mark. We had a couple near the point but this has proved very disappointing. Most of the fish were tagged and all were released.

They were caught on a mixture of savage slugs, shimmer eels and surface lures
