Having had my Van Staal VS100B for 2 years now and it is still performing like new I have decided to save up and buy another one or one without a bail arm, which is 70 dollars cheaper. I know that Derek has one without a bail arm and he is use to it.
I have the service kit and have serviced my reel without problems. Two Van Staals is a bit extravagent but you only live once and they hold their value well. All I have to do now is to save and decide which is better an import from America or a trip to Mr Fish
UPDATE Spent all my money and brought vs 100 from Mr Fish I just cannot afford the braid to go on it. Thanks Mick for giving me Credit Tried it out Sunday getting use to not having a bail arm a lovely little reel. Just registered with Van staal and they are sending me a free hat
UPDATE My hat arrived within 4 days Great item how about that for service well done Van Staal

First Trip of the year
I decided to give the engines a run on the boat so left the moorings at 0830 this morning. A small 26ft tide and a 2-3 Northerly wind blowing. Having turned into the nearby marks I tried a white swim senko. A few gulls were circling around but there was nothing to be had.
After a few hours fishing and numb hands I decided to call it a day, you cannot expect too much at this time of year and in a few months those silver ghosts will be re-appearing once again. The only trouble being what sort of damage is being inflicted on them off the coast of Guernsey where they are breeding.

Bass caught in Jersey
Here are a few fish Derek Buesnel and I have caught in Jersey
Welcome to BASSING-JERSEY

Having fished for bass for a number of years in Jersey mainly with a fellow bass fanatic Derek Buesnel we have averaged around the 300 fish per year each. This is the figure only whilst we fish together. All our fish are caught on lures in particular soft plastics.
Sadly we have noticed a marked decline in large fish being caught with the number of double figure dopping dramatically. The picture on the left shows a lovely 13.5lb fish caught during a May fishing trip on a weighted eddystone eel. What am I going to write about, I do not know as yet, I will just see how it develops
